The TR-85 is a Romanian main battle tank . It was based on the Soviet T-55 .

description

The Romanian Army has 154 of these armored vehicles.

An increase in combat value of the TR-85 compared to the T-55 is at least questionable. The upgraded T-55AM is believed to be more powerful than the newer versions of the TR-85. The T-55s produced in the Soviet Union are also much more reliable than the TR-85 and the T-55s produced under license in Romania.

The A308 cannon of the TR-85, a Romanian license production of the Soviet D-10T , can fire all types of ammunition intended for the 100-mm D-10T tank cannon.

Versions

  • TR-85M : Fundamentally modernized variant.
  • TR-85M1 "Bizonul" : Modernized version of the TR-85, the z. B. with the fire control system Ciclop-M1 , a system for measuring the muzzle velocity and equipped with a more powerful engine. In addition to twelve smoke pots, the tank is also equipped with laser warning sensors that warn the crew if the vehicle is illuminated with lasers. With the newly developed 100 mm APFSDS bullet BM-412Sg , armor of 450 millimeters RHA equivalent can be penetrated at 1000 meters. The turret of the TR-85 M1 is larger and equipped with additional armor elements.
  • TR-85M2 : Minimal changes compared to the TR-85M1, mainly in the storage space.
  • DMT-85M1 ( d ragor de m ine pentru t anc ): Prototype of a pioneer tank equipped with a mine plow .
