TSV Betzingen

The TSV Betzingen , detail gymnastics and sports club Betzingen eV in 1889 , is a sports club from Betzingen with the divisions badminton, BMX, recreational sports, football, handball, athletics, cycling, swimming, tennis, table tennis, gymnastics and volleyball. The club became known through the women's table tennis team, which played in the Bundesliga .

Club history

On February 4, 1889, the club was founded under the name Turnverein Betzingen . By 1900 more than 250 members were active. After the First World War , other sports were added: football in 1919, handball in 1930, and table tennis around 1948. During the Second World War , gymnastics came to a largely standstill. In April 1950, the club was re-established as a merger of the former gymnastics club, workers gymnastics association and sports fans 1946 Betzingen under the current name Turn- und Sportverein Betzingen eV .

Table tennis

The table tennis department was established around 1948. The men's team played from 1968 to 1978 in the Verbandsliga, the top division of Baden-Württemberg at the time.

The flagship was the women's team, which rose from the district class to the state league in a few years and reached the association league in 1984. Here she became champion in 1987 and moved up to the 2nd Bundesliga . After a guest appearance in the Regionalliga in 1988/89, he was immediately promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga and finally in 1990 to the 1st Bundesliga. In 1998 the team was relegated and a year later rose again. It was most successful in the 2000/01 season when it finished third, entered the European ETTU Cup and won that competition.

At the end of the 2004/05 season, the club pulled the team back to the league for financial reasons. Today (2012) the team plays in the regional league.
