development

Until 1945, SV Viktoria and 1. FC 1900 were the most famous sports clubs in Zerbst. While SV Viktoria played a successful role with its soccer team in Central Germany, 1. FC and its subordinate soccer team became known through its javelin thrower Paul Koitzsch, who was several times Central German champion. In 1944, both clubs formed the KSG Viktoria / 1900 Zerbst war syndicate and briefly competed in the Gauliga Mitte , where they played a few point games in the Anhalt district with seven other teams until the championship was canceled.

After the end of the Second World War , the two sports clubs, like all clubs in the Soviet occupation zone, were permanently dissolved. In order to be able to continue the sports business, the formation of loosely organized sports communities was permitted. SG Turnen und Sport (TuS) was initially founded in Zerbst, which was the successor to SV Viktoria and FC 1900. In 1948 the company sports community (BSG) Einheit Zerbst emerged from it, in which the sports sections soccer, handball, fistball, volleyball, gymnastics, bowling, athletics, table tennis and gymnastics developed. In 1968 the BSG unit merged with the BSG Empor Zerbst and together with them formed the BSG unit-Empor Zerbst.

When the system of company sports associations collapsed after the political change of 1989/90 due to the changed economic conditions, the members of the BSG Einheit-Uppor took advantage of the new possibility of forming registered clubs and converted the BSG into the TSV Rot-Weiß Zerbst. With the exception of fistball, all previous sports could initially be continued. In 1999 the bowling department split off and founded the new club Sportkegelverein 1999 Rot-Weiß Zerbst, in 2000 handball (HSV 2000 Zerbst) and table tennis (TTC Anhalt Zerbst) were outsourced.

Soccer

At first the focus was on football. In 1948 the BSG unit started in the Saxony-Anhalt district class, from which it rose to the third-class state class in 1951. In 1952/53 Zerbst unit was classified in the newly established, third-class district league Magdeburg, from which the BSG relegated to the district class Magdeburg one season later. Until 1974 there was a constant change between the district league and the district class. The season 1973/74 ended the BSG Einheit-Empor Zerbst with the descent into the fifth-rate district league. The last season in the GDR football game operation closed the BSG Einheit-Empor with fifth place in the district class. In the DFB game operation , the TSV Rot-Weiß has not yet surpassed the state level. The highest league in 2004/05 was the then sixth class Landesliga Sachsen-Anhalt, in which the club could only hold out for one season. Only in 2016 succeeded in returning from the national class to the now seventh class national league.

Handball

Women's handball developed most successfully. In 1962 the women were promoted to the field handball league for one season , after which they played in the second-rate handball league for many years. In 1973 the handball women reached fifth place in the final round of the FDGB handball cup. In 1978 (2nd main round), 1981 (3rd) and 1985 (2nd), the women's team was also in the GDR-wide handball cup competition.
