Career

The TTC Esslingen was founded in 1970 as an independent association. After several promotions, the first men's team reached the Regionalliga Süd in 1979, at that time the second highest division in Germany. During the presidency of Christian Scholz, the team was strengthened by several newcomers, so that in 1980/81 the championship in the regional league and thus promotion to the Bundesliga succeeded undefeated. The championship team consisted of Jürgen Wörner, Chin-Hoc Voung, Derd Soos, Gerd Thieleke, Rüdiger Strelau, Gerd Stein, Ulrich Reinke, Laszlo Turzo, Reinhard Sefried and Thomas Schaaf. After two years, the club had to relegate again. In 1992 the team rose again to the Bundesliga. Under the coach Derd Soos, however, the immediate relegation followed without gaining a point. In early 1993, the association filed for bankruptcy due to financial difficulties.

In between the club called itself TTC Wachholz Esslingen . Well-known players were Dragutin Šurbek and Vasile Florea .
