TTE was the third largest manufacturer of televisions (after Samsung and LG Electronics). The product range included all types of televisions, from CRT to LCD , in all price ranges with various features. The company was founded in 2004 as a joint venture between the Chinese company TCL and the French company Thomson . However, televisions from other brands, such as Schneider , were also manufactured here. Third parties also obtained certain components from TTE.

The German subsidiary of the joint venture, TTE Germany GmbH (formerly SABA ), had been insolvent since November 2006 . In 2007, TCL was confronted with the accusation of the employee representatives that, similar to the earlier Siemens division BenQ Mobile , they had only used the cooperation to transfer the existing know-how to China; in the meantime, all inflows of funds have been stopped in a targeted and surprising manner. Insolvency for the subsidiary has already been filed, the insolvency proceedings were opened on February 1, 2007.

In May 2007, TTE Europe SAS also filed for bankruptcy. The company has only made losses since its inception. In the first nine months of 2006, the loss was 159 million euros.
