The head office of the international company is located in the sub-provincial city and special economic zone of Shenzhen . The abbreviation formerly stood for Today China Lion 今日 中国 雄狮 , since 2007 it has stood for The Creative Life Chinese  创意 感动 生活 . The company is listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE).

The group has divided various divisions of its business activities into subsidiaries, including above all TCL Multimedia , TCL Communication , China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT), TCL Houshold Appliances and Tonly Electronics , some of which are also listed.

history

Established in 1981 as TTK Home Appliances Co., Ltd. in Huizhou , the company began as one of a total of thirteen joint ventures to manufacture audio and video cassettes . The formerly state-owned company developed rapidly in the 1990s - after complete privatization by foreign investors - into one of the fastest growing companies in the world. Its average growth rate over the past twelve years has been 42.56%. As a result of the Asian crisis from 1997, the company suffered major sales losses. Li Dongsheng , CEO since 1996, decided to make the group competitive in the international market in the future. Even before the turn of the century, TCL was able to position itself successfully on the world market for electrical engineering with avant-garde and technologically advanced products . Today, the TCL brand name is worth $ 3.5 billion .

TCL now has more than 50,000 employees in more than 80 global offices and operations, including 18 research and development centers , 20 manufacturing facilities, and more than 40 sales offices. TCL also operates more than 40,000 sales outlets worldwide. From 2000 onwards, Li Dongsheng gradually tried to establish himself as the operator of a global corporation by taking over foreign companies. In 2002 TCL took over the insolvent Schneiderwerke from Germany and in 2004 the television production division of Thomson from France , which made TCL the world's largest manufacturer of tube televisions .

In August 2004, TCL agreed a joint venture with the French telecommunications company Alcatel , TCL & Alcatel Mobile Phones Ltd. (short: TAMP). The community was 55 percent owned by TCL. A ten-year license agreement followed in May 2005, so that TAMP became a wholly-owned subsidiary of TCL. TAMP was renamed TCT Mobile Limited and is now called TCL Communications. The company sells mobile phones and tablet PCs worldwide through subsidiaries under the name Alcatel One Touch , including as one of the few providers devices with the alternative operating system Firefox OS. TCL Communication Ltd. manufactures for the mobile communications provider Vodafone . Android contract devices. In 2016 TCL acquired the rights to build Blackberry phones ever since.

According to his own statements, Li Dongsheng is sticking to a strategy through which he wants to make TCL a “Chinese Sony or Samsung ”. In the field of flat screens , a move up into this top group has already been achieved (as of 2014).
