TV Breizh

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

TV Breizh is a private French television station with its main distribution in Brittany ( Breizh in Breton ). The company is based in Lorient . According to the company, almost 12 million people receive the station via cable or satellite; that should correspond to about 3 million subscribers.

history

On September 1, 2000, the station began its work with the help of TF1 and Patrick Le Lay . TV Breizh broadcasts programs about the region and repeats of the channel TF1 in Breton. Due to the financial problems of TF1 and against the background that the French supervisory authority for television and radio channels, the Conseil supérieur de l'audiovisuel , wants to further limit the influence of the state-controlled broadcasters, TV Breizh had to reduce its broadcasting times from 2003. With its efforts to get its own digital terrestrial frequency for a 24-hour program, the station failed in 2004; instead, with Nantes 7, a French-speaking regional broadcaster from Nantes - historically part of Brittany, which, however, does not belong to today's administrative region of the same name - was considered. These events are seen by regional politicians as further proof of how difficult the central French authorities are with the cultural self-determination of the regions.

Programs

The programs mainly focus on news and regional coverage, but more and more feature films and TV series are shown in order to attract a broader audience to subscribe to TVB.
