The basketball department, whose first men's team competed in the 2nd Bundesliga “ Pro B ” in 2010/11, was also particularly successful .
history
The TV Konstanz was founded on June 20, 1862 as a pure gymnastics club. Until the First World War , a diverse club life developed in which one participated and organized numerous gymnastics festivals. In 1923 the handball department, which together with the gymnastics department, was to form the main focus of the club for a long time, was founded. As early as 1930 you became a Gaumeister. In the gymnastics department, the Stadel brothers in particular are to be mentioned as the club's figureheads. Karl Stadel became German champion on pommel horse, horizontal bar and horse jumping in 1936. His brother Willi Stadel took part in the Olympics for Germany and became Olympic champion in the team all-round competition. After the Second World War, gymnastics started again in 1948. Numerous other departments were founded in quick succession (1959 swimming department, 1960 gymnastics department, 1961 trampoline department, 1968 volleyball department, 1969 basketball department), but the core elements remained the gymnastics, handball and athletics departments, with numerous regional successes. A milestone for the handball players was certainly the merger with the HCDJK Konstanz in 1980, which have since competed under the name " HSG Konstanz ". This bundling of forces enabled the club to establish itself long-term in performance-related handball.
Handball
The handball department is a particularly successful one at TV Konstanz. The department, which appears under its own name as HSG Konstanz , is characterized by very successful youth work, especially in the male area. The teams play consistently in the highest divisions and have a large number of successes to show.
The long-term goal of the HSG Konstanz is to use exemplary and well-structured youth work to position the sport of handball in the largest city on Lake Constance in a future-oriented way. With the “Konstanzer Weg”, the HSG, in cooperation with the Konstanz universities, has created a creative and solid basis for top performance suitable for the national league, which is extremely attractive and a role model for youth work. These collaborations to promote top-class sport with the University of Konstanz and the HTWG Konstanz , within the framework of which exclusive scholarships are awarded to young, motivated talents, represent a nationwide specialty.
With continuous work, he returned to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2016 as the third division champions of the southern season and the associated membership of the 38 best handball teams in Germany. Head coach Daniel Eblen returned in his 13th year as HSG coach where he had to end his career early as a player with HSG Konstanz due to injury. His team was supported by more than 1000 spectators per home game - a league record for years. A year later they managed to stay in the second division early with 35:41 points. Once again, the average number of spectators increased significantly to 1,300 per home game - the best figure for a newcomer and eleventh place in the league.
basketball
A successful department is the basketball department. Around 150 players played here in 15 teams. Particular attention is paid to youth work. In 2009/2010 all male youth teams were represented in the top division of the upper league. In addition, the U20s were champions of Baden-Württemberg in 2008 and 2009.
The basketball department has continuously grown in importance over the past ten years. After several promotions in recent years, in the 2009/10 season, under the name HolidayCheckBaskets, they were promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga Pro B behind their long-term rivals from Schwenningen , making it the most successful team sports team in town at the time. Despite the second highest average attendance in the league, the team was relegated back to the 1st Regionalliga Südwest in 2011.
In the 2011/12 regional league season, the former professional Marko Radulovic was the coach of the team, which was based on the Konstanz concept with some of his own. On March 25, 2012, about 1400 spectators were received in the Schänzlehalle in the preliminary duel for the championship against the direct competitor TUS Treis-Karden , which was a club record. Since they won the game almost 65:63, this represented the preliminary decision for the championship in front of a frenetic audience. Unbeaten in front of their own audience, the club managed to win the championship in the regional league for the first time in its history.
The associated promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga Pro B was in question for a long time after the name sponsor and main financier Holidaycheck had ceased its activities. A large-scale rescue operation was started, which led to a new season ticket record and, one week before the first match day of the 2012/2013 season, to the finding of a new name sponsor ( ifm electronic ). The club is now entering the new season as ifm BASEKTS , which has the side effect that the first men's team no longer enters the race in blue and white, but in the colors of the sponsor's orange and black. In terms of sport, the 2012/2013 season was disappointing and in the end the team was relegated from the Pro B to the Regionalliga Südwest. In the 2014/15 season, Konstanz was sixth in the 1st regional league, and in 2015 the team withdrew to the league for financial reasons. In 2018 the team was promoted to the 2nd regional league. After the 13th place in the table in the Regional League Baden-Württemberg in the 2018/19 game year, the relegation to the upper league took place.
