Taça do Atlântico

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Taça do Atlântico (Port.), Or Spanish Copa del Atlántico is probably best translated as Atlantic Cup . Between 1956 and 1976 this was an unofficial tournament of the leading national soccer teams in South America , which was organized by the associations involved. Participants were the national soccer teams of Brazil , Argentina , Uruguay and Paraguay . The games took place in the cities of Asunción , Buenos Aires , Montevideo and Rio de Janeiro . Brazil won all three draws, which took place in 1956, 1960 and 1976.

In 1956 there was also a club tournament with the same name with participants from the above. Countries except Paraguay.

The tournament is not to be confused with the Copa del Atlántico . This tournament took place only once in 1947.

1The match in Buenos Aires between Argentina and Brazil was the last of the great Brazilian coach Flávio Costa on the Seleção bench .
2The games of Brazil, which won the Taça do Atlântico undefeated for the second time , were also counted for the individual game series against the other national teams, which were rewarded with cups at the time. Brazil won the Copa Roca against Argentina, the Copa Rio Branco against Uruguay and the Taça Oswaldo Cruz against Paraguay that year. All of these trophies were played for the last time this year.
