Taşkın Oymacı

Taşkın Oymacı (* around 1938 in Turkey ) is a former social worker . From 1973 to 1998 Oymacı was a migrant advisor at the AWO in Bocholt . He has been awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.

Life

Oymacı came to Germany in 1962, shortly after the signing of the recruitment contract between the Federal Republic and Turkey, and was the fifth Turkish guest worker in Bocholt. From then on, the trained carpenter also became socially committed.

To improve the living situation of the Turkish citizens, he founded the Turkish Cultural Association in Bocholt in 1968, and was its chairman until it was dissolved in 1973. When he had to give up his job at Bocholter Laborbau for health reasons , he switched to the Arbeiterwohlfahrt in 1973, where he took on the newly created position of “Adviser for Turkish Citizens”. He remained active as a social advisor for the workers' welfare organization until August 1998.

In 1980 he was also the founder of the Turkish Cultural Center in Bocholt, which existed until 1989. In 1992 an engagement in the Turkish Parents' Association followed. Since 1994 he has been a member of the board of directors of the Association of Turkish Parents' Associations in Münster and Detmold. In addition, he co-founded the German-Turkish Society in Bocholt in 1993 and has been a member of the city's foreigners' advisory council since 1994.

In January 2005 Oymacı was awarded the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany for his commitment. “Live with one another and learn from one another”, that was Oymacı's motto, it was said in the laudatory speech. In addition to his German citizenship, he had not given up his Turkish identity and “made a great contribution to the coexistence of the people in Bocholt” and always stood up against xenophobia and xenophobia.
