Location of Taaken in Lower Saxony

Taaken is now part of the municipality of Reeßum in the integrated municipality of Sottrum in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district in Lower Saxony . Taaken was an independent municipality until 1969 and today has about 380 inhabitants.

history

It is said that the first settlements in the Taaken area were around 4000 to 2000 BC. Have given. This emerges from grave fields. The first written representations come from the Romans around the birth of Christ. At the time, the Germanic Chauken tribe was resident in the Taaken area .

Around 200 AD the Chauken were displaced by the advancing Saxons . The area was divided into Gaue. Taaken belonged to the Gau Waldsati ("those who live in the forest"). The place was first mentioned in a document in 1437 as "Tho Taken", later it was written as "Takken" or "Taken". The Jordan book from the Swedish times mentions a total of 17 fireplaces in the village for 1694, 20 in 1770 and finally 19 in 1784.

In 1969 the municipalities of Sottrum, Taaken, Clüversborstel, Bötersen, Everinghausen, Hassendorf, Hellwege, Höperhöfen, Winkeldorf, Schleeßel, Stapel, Stuckenborstel and Reeßum voluntarily merged to form the Sottrum municipality. From 1970, other localities were added to the joint municipality.

On March 1, 1974 Taaken was incorporated into the municipality of Reeßum.
