Tabuk ( Arabic تبوك, Tabūk ), also spelled Tabouk , is the capital of Tabuk Region in northwestern Saudi Arabia . The city has about 512,629 inhabitants (2010 census).

history

Around 500 BC The village of Tabuk (then known as Taboo ) was together with Al Ola the capital of the Al Ayaneyean .

In the area around Tabuk, the campaign to Tabuk took place in the time of the Prophet Mohammed .

The city's attractions include the mosque, the Tabuk fortress and a Hejaz Railway station from the Ottoman Empire . Some important archaeological sites can be found in Tabuk Province, such as: B. Al Bidaa .

Geography and climate

To the northeast lies the agricultural area of Al-Basayta . The weather is continental desert-related. Temperatures in summer are between 26 and 46 ° C and in winter between 4 and 18 ° C; there is often frost. Rain falls in the Tabuk province between November and March, the amount of precipitation is between 50 and 150 mm, and every three to four years snow falls.

Gulf War

Tabuk became a sideline to military activity during the First Gulf War as the city was exposed to Iraqi missile attacks. The Pakistani army then sent troops to protect the Saudi military facilities .
