Tacheles (self-help organization)
Tacheles eV (own spelling) is a self-help organization for socially disadvantaged and unemployed people , which was founded in 1994 in Wuppertal . The aim of the association is to clarify the existing legal situation so that those affected can exercise their rights and counteract possible discrimination. To this end, he published guides for those affected and guidelines on how to enforce justified claims on his website. 2,500 consultations are carried out annually.
Tacheles has become known nationwide with discussion forums and address databases on its website. Its judgment database with decisions in the area of social legislation is the most extensive in Germany. In addition to providing information for those affected, especially in the area of ALG-II help, the association has its own model lawsuits to influence legal decisions in the social area.
In 2006, a lawsuit against the Federal Employment Agency at the Düsseldorf Social Court based on the Freedom of Information Act attracted a lot of media attention . In the procedure, the authority undertook to make the internal service instructions and all internal documents relevant for the granting of benefits available in an internet database as requested. The association was granted a right of control over the Federal Employment Agency to guarantee freedom of information.
The association successfully accompanied further legal action up to the Federal Social Court , for example in June 2008, when the hospital food allowance of ALG II recipients was challenged.
The social scientist Harald Thomé, lecturer in social law, is on the board of the association. Harald Thomé, Regine Blazevic and Frank Jäger, also advisor for social law, are responsible for the editorial part.
In January 2009, the association , which had previously been based in Luisenstrasse , moved into new premises in the Wuppertal-Loh train station . A social center with a district meeting point, an advice center and a café has been created in the building.
