Tadayoshi Ichida ( Japanese 市 田 忠義 , Ichida Tadayoshi ; born December 28, 1942 in Osaka Prefecture ) is a Japanese politician , a member of the Sangiin , the upper house of the Japanese parliament , and former general secretary of the Japanese Communist Party (CPJ).

Ichida, a graduate of Ritsumeikan University's Faculty of Law , has been a CPJ member since his student days in 1963. Since 1971 he was a full-time employee of the party. In 1988 he took over the chairmanship of the CPJ in the Kyōto prefecture (until 1997), in 1994 he became a member of the permanent executive committee ( jōnin kambukai ) of the central committee (ZK).

In the 1998 Sangiin election , Ichida was elected to the Sangiin at number 2 on the list of the CPY via the nationwide proportional representation and, after the introduction of the preferential vote in 2004 and 2010 , was confirmed in office with the highest percentage of votes of all CPY candidates. In 1999 he took over the management of the election campaign office ( Senkyotaisakukyoku ) in the party, and in 2000 he succeeded Kazuo Shii as head of the Central Committee's secretariat ( shokikyoku-chō ). After the 2010 election, he also took over the chairmanship of the CPY faction in the Sangiin from Akira Koike , who had been voted out . In 2014 he was replaced by Yoshiki Yamashita as general secretary, he became one of the "vice chairmen" (fuku-iinchō) . In 2015 Ichida announced that he would no longer run in the 2016 Sangiin election , but at the request of the party decided to continue in office and was re-elected with the highest percentage of all CPY candidates in the national proportional representation.
