Day of measurement

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

International Measurement Day (also World Metrology Day or Metrology Day ) has been celebrated on May 20th since 2000. It was on this day in 1875 that the international meter convention was signed. It is jointly organized by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) and the International Organization for Legal Metrology (OIML). Today the day should point to the importance of measurement and the science of measurement (= metrology ) for economy and society.

Since 2004 the days have each had a motto:

  • 2004: Metrology in the World of Sport
  • 2005: Small and Medium Enterprises
  • 2006: Measurement in Health
  • 2007: Measurements in our Environment
