Tagblatt archive

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tagblatt-Archiv is the only newspaper archive in Vienna that survived the Second World War and forms the basis for numerous scientific and journalistic works. It is set up in the Vienna Library in the City Hall and can be used by the public.

The Tagblatt archive was set up by the Neues Wiener Tagblatt newspaper , initially continued after 1945 by the communist Globus publishing house , then taken over by the Vienna Chamber of Labor and Employees and finally transferred to the Vienna City Library in the City Hall in 2002 . Eckart Früh has made great contributions to its preservation . The Tagblatt archive mainly contains newspaper clippings sorted by topic or person, but also bequests, posters and photos. It complements the collections of newspaper clippings on the politics and history of Vienna in the library, such as the Wiesinger collection from the years 1869 to 1896 or the Wurzbach documentation, a collection of documents for the "Biographical Lexicon of the Austrian Empire", the Constantin von Wurzbach , the author of the lexicon.
