day clinic

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A day clinic is a facility for outpatient / partial inpatient care. Their resources allow them to treat and care for patients for up to 24 hours.

Day clinics are establishing themselves on an interdisciplinary basis or as part of individual disciplines. In geriatrics, for example, they enable patients to be kept busy, observed and gradually taken to various specialist examinations in the clinic to which they are affiliated.

Traditionally, these are practices of resident doctors in the operative and operative diagnostic area. Occasionally there are also day clinics approved according to § 30 of the trade regulations . These can have their own ward. In terms of regulatory law, these facilities are subject to regional hospital supervision. These facilities are only rarely included in the state hospital plan in Germany , which is why, according to Section 108 of Book V of the Social Code (SGB V), statutory health insurances are not obliged to reimburse treatment costs.

In the field of psychiatry , day clinics are socio-therapeutic and sometimes also psychotherapeutic facilities in which patients continue to be cared for during the day if they are able to get by in their own apartment during the rest of the time. These are used on the one hand for follow-up care after inpatient treatment or to avoid inpatient treatment. The psychiatric and psychosomatic day clinics in Germany are linked to the German Working Group of Day Clinics for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics .

Lately, operative day clinics have increasingly been set up at hospitals, since the health insurance companies refuse to pay for an inpatient stay for many surgical interventions that could also have been performed on an outpatient basis .
