The Tahoma is a linear sans -Schrift that 1,995 of Matthew Carter for Microsoft was designed. It is similar to Carter's Verdana , which was also developed for display on the screen, but has a smaller spacing between the letters. To this end, the scope of Unicode support has been increased: while the Verdana only contains Latin, Greek and Cyrillic characters, Tahoma also supports Arabic, Hebrew and Thai.

Tahoma was superseded by the Segoe UI font in Microsoft Windows Vista . According to Microsoft, texts written in Segoe UI can be read up to five percent faster.
