The Taiwanese sticky rice sausage ( Chinese  大腸 包 小腸 , Pinyin Dà cháng bāo xiăo cháng , Pe̍h-ōe-jī Tōa-tn̂g pau sió-tn̂g, "small sausage in large sausage" ) is a dish that is very well known in Taiwan . It is also called "Taiwanese hot dog ". Instead of a bread roll, a “sausage” made from glutinous rice is used.

preparation

Spiced sticky rice is stuffed into a washed pig intestine. The sausage, which is also stuffed in a pig's intestine, is made from pork shoulder meat and fatty pork. Usually the sticky rice and the sausage are fried separately. Then both are served and seasoned with peanut flour, cucumber, parsley, soy sauce, garlic, ginger and black pepper. There are now two ways of preparation: In the first type, the sausage and rice are cut into small pieces, served on a plate and usually consumed with a small fork. In the second type of preparation, the sausage is placed in the sliced sticky rice and both are eaten by hand.

origin

Taiwanese sticky rice sausage was invented in Hualien by Taiwanese Hakka . In the 1990s, the dish became very popular. Before that, the Hakka ate sticky rice and sausage separately. The dish is very inexpensive, so it became very popular as a snack.
