Taji ( Arabic التاجي, DMG at-Tāǧī ) is an Iraqi city in the district of Taji in the province of Salah ad-Din . It is located about 25 kilometers north of the city of Baghdad .

In 2003, Taji had a population of 143,794 people.

Infrastructure

In Taji is the Camp Taji a large military base stationed on Iraqi soldiers with those of the United States, Australia and New Zealand.

The hat prison is also located in the city. On the morning of November 28, 2011, a suicide attack was carried out with a car bomb. Eleven people died and more than 20 were injured.

On May 15, 2016, suicide bombers from the terrorist organization Islamic State attacked the gas-fired power plant built in 2012 by URUK Engineering & Contracting Co. At least 11 people are killed and 22 others injured.

After the Iranian rocket attacks on several US bases in Iraq in retaliation for the killing of Qasem Soleimani on January 3, 2020 on the orders of US President Donald Trump , the German armed forces were withdrawn from Taji on January 7, 2020. While cleaning his rifle in the accommodation area of ​​the Taji location, a shot from the G36 of a soldier was released on March 3, reported the operational command in Potsdam. The shot injured two other German soldiers in the leg.

Attacks 2020

On March 11, 2020, 15 missiles landed at Camp Taji , killing two Americans. Another 14 suffered wounds.

On March 14, 2020, more than 25 107mm caliber rockets struck and wounded seven soldiers.

In response to the attacks, the evangelical hawks around Pompeo and Grenell considered retaliatory strikes against Iran.
