The Shin-Takasegawa pumped storage power plant ( Japanese 新 高 瀬 川 発 電 所 , Shin Takase-gawa hatsudensho, German "new Takase-gawa power plant") is a pumped storage power plant on the Takase River in northwestern Nagano Prefecture in central Japan . The power plant is located in the Chūbu Sangaku National Park west of the city of Omachi and has an installed capacity of 1280 MW, which is generated by five turbines. The hydraulic drop height is 229 meters. The construction period lasted from 1980 to 1998.
The Takase Dam ( 高 瀬 ダ ム ) on the upper basin is a rock rubble dam with a height of 176 m, which dams a reservoir of 76.2 million m³. The lower basin is 32.5 million m³ and is formed a little further below on the same river by the 125 meter high Nanakura rock embankment dam ( 七 倉 ダ ム ). The facility is operated by Tōkyō Denryoku (TEPCO).
The Takase dam is the highest dam of riprap in Japan and the second highest dam after the Kurobe Dam , which has an arcuate dam as shut-off.
