Takashima ( Japanese 高 島 , dt. "High island") is a Japanese island of the Seto Inland Sea .

geography

The 2.63 km² island is located northeast of Shikoku separated by the Konaruto Strait ("Little Naruto Strait"), south of Shimada-shima and west of Ōge-jima . The body of water between Takashima and the latter two is called Uchi-no-umi ( ウ チ ノ „," inner lake "). Due to landfills between Ōge-jima and Takashima, these now form a double island with both parts separated by a 50 m wide canal. Suku-no-umi ( ス ク ノ 海 ; 34 ° 12 ′ 30 ″  N , 134 ° 36 ′ 30 ″  E ) lies between the two islands in the north and is connected to the sea by the channel in the south and a lock in the north .

A mountain ridge runs through the island from north to south, the highest point of which is on the northern peninsula at 99.9 m.

The island forms the upper district ( ōaza ) Narutochō-Takashima ( 鳴 門 町 高 島 ) of the municipality Naruto with the following suburbs ( koaza ): Nakashima ( 中 島 , "central island") in the north and the areas east of the central ridge, Yamaji ( 山路 , "mountain path ") For the western side of the ridge, then in the central part of the island Kita ( ," north ") in the north and Minami ( ," south ") in the south, as well as Takeshima ( 竹 島 ," bamboo island ") in the north-west and Hamanaka ( 浜 中 , "Strandmitte") in the southwest. An exception is Hachikenhama ( 八 軒 浜 ) which extends along the northern half of the water channel with Ōge-jima and belongs to the upper district of Narutochō-Mitsuishi of Ōge-jima, but is located on Takashima. As of March 31, 2015, 3980 inhabitants lived on the island, making Takashima, although the smallest of the three islands, has the largest population.

Naruto College of Education is located on the island .

The Great Konaruto Bridge ( 小 鳴 門 大橋 , Konaruto-ōhashi ) which crosses the Konaruto Strait connects the island with Shikoku. Takashima is connected to Ōge-jima by three other bridges.
