Valley Memorial
The Tal Memorial is a chess tournament that has been held in Moscow in honor of Mikhail Tal since 2006 . Since 2011, the tournaments have each reached category 21, making them one of the best-attended tournaments ever.
Tournament mode
Ten invited grandmasters play in a one- round round -robin tournament , initially with the classic time control (100 minutes for 40 moves, 50 minutes for the following 20 moves and 15 minutes for the rest of the game, plus 30 seconds per move from the start of the game). Draw offers before move 41 are not allowed, but in 2013 a number of games before move 40 ended with a draw (by repetition of moves ).
In 2013, the prize money totaled 100,000 euros , 30,000 of which went to the tournament winner.
In 2014 the Valley Memorial was held as a blitz chess tournament in Sochi .
The tenth valley memorial (with a classic time to think about it) took place in September 2016.
The 11th Tal Memorial took place from March 2nd to 5th, 2018. First, ten invited grandmasters played a rapid chess tournament (25 minutes to think about plus 10 seconds per move). Then a blitz tournament was played in which four other players took part.
