The Talak (also: Talakh ) is a sandy desert in Niger .

The Talak plain, which belongs to the Sahara, extends over an area of ​​around 100,000 km². It is located in the Agadez region in the north of Niger and is bordered in the east by the Aïr high mountains . Dry valleys crisscross the area. The temporary rivers reach the Niger River via the Azawagh river system and the Dallol Bosso .

There are several dinosaur sites in the talak. Geographically, the area is assigned to the Visa . The clayey and fine sandy soil becomes very muddy in the rainy season. This explains the name of the desert , which comes from the Tuareg language : Talak means "clay".

From June to September nomadisieren members of the Tuareg faction Kel Tédélé in Talak. The Trans-Sahara Highway runs through the east of the desert in a north-south direction between Algiers and Lagos .
