The railcars of the type Eifel and Schleswig are narrow-gauge railcars with a gauge of 1000 mm.

history

The railcars were built in 1949/1950 by the Aachener Waggonfabrik Talbot . The first car of the Eifel type was ordered by the Euskirchener Kreisbahnen and put into operation on May 6, 1950; another followed on October 11, 1950. The Eckernförder orbits ordered three vehicles; Since a weaker engine was sufficient there, this - otherwise unchanged - version was given the type designation Schleswig . In total, only six cars were made. Although a modernization of the locomotive fleet was necessary for many railways in the early 1950s, the demand was no longer there due to the discontinuation of many narrow-gauge railways. None of the railcars had been with the first owner for more than ten years.

A twin-engine further development was delivered in two copies to the Altenaer Eisenbahn district in 1955 and listed there as "VT 1 and 2" .

Constructive features

The meter-gauge railcars were diesel-powered; the Humboldt-Deutz engine was located in the middle in a shed between two bench seats and powered the inner axles of the two bogies via cardan shafts; the power was enough to add another car. A four-speed Mylius gearbox was used for shifting . The cars were quite comfortable for the time: They had Webasto hot water heating and upholstered, leather-covered seats - also for the driver. The seat division was 3 + 1, with the twin-engine railcar of the Eckernförde Kreisbahn 2 + 2. The doors of the VT 2 were removed on one side of the Langeoog island railway, as the platforms are all on the same side. It is also used on the self-edge web .

Whereabouts

Three of the wagons are still preserved today: They are at the Märkische Museumseisenbahn , the Selfkantbahn and the German Railway Association .
