The Märkische Museums-Eisenbahn e. V. (MME) was founded to receive narrow-gauge railway vehicles mainly from the Sauerland and to show them in operation. The association operates the infrastructure and traffic of a museum railway under the name Sauerländer Kleinbahn .

history

Founded on July 14, 1982 in Plettenberg , the association took the opportunity to buy vehicles from the Juist and Spiekeroog island railways , some of which had previously run in the Sauerland. Today, however, there is only one vehicle left by the Spiekeroog island railway. The following railways were in the foreground of the collecting activity:

In Plettenberg , the association was able to set up on remains of the PKB track and with a temporary workshop in an old boiler house to restore the vehicles it had acquired. On the edge, relics of the Ruhr-Lippe Railway (RLE) and a number of narrow-gauge industrial railways could also be recovered, including the historically interesting Harkort coal railway , which was founded by industrial pioneer Friedrich Harkort in 1829 - six years before the Ludwigsbahn Nürnberg – Fürth - started operations, albeit initially as a horse-drawn railway.

Today's museum route

The association found a suitable place to set up its 1000 mm museum railway on the route of the Plettenberg – Herscheid railway line, which was shut down and dismantled in 1969, between Hüinghausen station and Oberstadt station (former course book line 239b). The company is run under the name " Sauerländer Kleinbahn ".

The operating center is the new depot in the area of ​​the Hüinghausen station. The station has seven tracks at its widest point. At the western end of the station, with financial help from the North Rhine-Westphalia Foundation, a depot with a three-track wagon shed and an unfinished water tower was built. The entire station area is freely accessible. If members of the association are present, this also applies to the wagon hall with the locomotives and cars housed in it. However, many (motor) cars are outside and can be viewed at any time. But your condition is not very good. They should be gradually restored.

Since 5./6. September 1986 the Bn2t steam locomotive 20 from Henschel & Sohn is part of the MME vehicle fleet. It was delivered to the Dortmund-Hörder Hüttenunion in 1950 with the vehicle number 27122 for its factory railway network.
