The Rälsbach viaduct is a motorway bridge between junctions 22 (" Siegen -Süd") and 23 ("Wilnsdorf") of the A 45 . It crosses the Rälsbach near Rinsdorf , a district of Wilnsdorf . The bridge was built from 1965 to 1966.
Technical details
The bridge has a height of approx. 25 m. The structure, which is 161 m long in the motorway axis, consists of two separate prestressed concrete superstructures , with the continuous beam as a structural system in the longitudinal direction.
New building
Due to the growing traffic load and the advanced age of the bridge, it will be replaced in the course of the expansion of the A45. The official start of construction was September 18, 2017. The planned construction period is three years. The new bridge will be 37.4 m wide and 26.3 m (in the middle) high in order to be able to carry six lanes plus two hard shoulders. The new length will be 175 m. The estimated cost of the new structure is 15.4 million euros. After the construction of the first half of the bridge, traffic is to be diverted to this. The old bridge is to be blown up in 2018 before the second half of the new construction can begin. At the end of November 2017, the northern part of the bridge was blown up.
