The Alfândega da Fé dam ( Portuguese Barragem de Alfândega da Fé ) is located in the northern region of Portugal in the Bragança district . It dams the alambiques to a reservoir. The small town of Alfândega da Fé is about two kilometers south of the dam.
The project to build the dam began in 1968. The construction was completed in 1970. In addition to the drinking water supply, the dam is also used for irrigation. It is owned by the Instituto da Água (INAG).
Barrier structure
The barrier structure consists of a dam with a height of 27 m above the foundation level (25 m above the river bed). The top of the dam is at a height of 628 m above sea level . The length of the dam crest is 750 m and its width is 6 m. The volume of the dam is 520,000 m³.
The dam has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 2.5 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 1 m³ / s via the flood discharge.
Reservoir
With a normal storage target of 626.5 m (maximum 626.7 m at high water), the reservoir extends over an area of around 0.22 km² and holds 1.6 million m³ of water - of which 1.3 million m³ can be used . The minimum congestion target is 607 m.
