The Armamar dam ( Portuguese Barragem de Armamar ) is located in the northern region of Portugal in the Viseu district . It dams the Temilobos , a left (southern) tributary of the Douro, to a reservoir. The eponymous small town Armamar is located about five kilometers northwest of the dam.
The project to build the dam started in 1999. The construction was completed in 2004. The dam is used for irrigation.
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a dam with a height of 40.5 m above the foundation level (34.5 m above the river bed). The top of the dam is at a height of 756.5 m above sea level . The length of the dam crest is 365 m and its width 7 m. The volume of the dam is 580,000 m³.
The design flood is 30 m³ / s; the probability of this event occurring has been determined to be once every 1,000 years.
Reservoir
With the normal storage target of 754 m (maximum 754.72 m at high water), the reservoir extends over an area of around 0.320 km² and holds 2.9 million m³ of water - of which 2.8 million m³ can be used. The minimum storage target is 733.25 m.
