The Daroeira dam ( Portuguese Barragem da Daroeira ) is located in the Alentejo region of Portugal in the Setúbal district . It dams the Messejana , a right (eastern) tributary of the Sado to a reservoir (port. Albufeira da Barragem da Daroeira ). The small town of Alvalade is about five kilometers northwest of the dam.
The dam was completed in 1953. It is used for irrigation. The dam is owned by the Sociedade Agrícola da Quinta da Freiria .
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a dam with a height of 16 m above the river bed. The crest of the dam is at a height of 106 m above sea level . The length of the dam crest is 483 m and its width 7 m.
The dam has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief .
Reservoir
With a normal storage target of 103 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 1.05 km² and holds 5.6 million m³ of water.
