The Mellègue dam or Nebeur dam ( French Barrage Mellègue or Barrage de Nebeur ; Arabic سد ملاق, DMG Sadd Mallāq ) is located in Tunisia in the Kef Governorate . It dams the Oued Mellègue into a reservoir. The town of El Kef is located approx. 15 km south of the dam.

The dam was built by France between 1949 and 1956. It is used for irrigation, flood protection and electricity generation.

Barrier structure

The barrier structure is a combination of arch dam and pier dam made of concrete (multiple arch dam with 5 arches) with a height of 65 (or 72) m and a crown length of 470 m. The top of the wall is at a height of 270 m above sea level .

The dam wall has a flood relief , through which a maximum of 5,400 or 6,000 m³ / s can be discharged.

Reservoir

With a maximum storage target of 270 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 14.72 (or 13) km² and holds 267.7 (or 182, 200 or 300) million m³ of water. With an average storage target of 250 m, the surface is 7.7 km². The average annual inflow into the reservoir is around 150 or 174 million m³; the minimum annual inflow is 37, the maximum 853 million m³.

The Mellègue power plant has an installed capacity of 11 MW . The average annual production is 17 (or 5) million kWh .
