The Morgavel dam ( Portuguese Barragem de Morgavel ) is located in the Alentejo region of Portugal in the Setúbal district . It dams the Morgavel to a reservoir (Port. Albufeira da Barragem de Morgavel ). The town of Sines is about six kilometers northwest of the dam.
The dam was completed in 1980. It is used to supply drinking water. The dam is owned by INAG .
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a dam with a height of 52 m above the foundation level (45 m above the river bed). The crest of the dam is at a height of 70 m above sea level . The length of the dam crest is 2,700 m.
The dam has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 54 m³ / s can be discharged via the flood relief.
Reservoir
With the normal storage target of 68.3 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 3.4 km² and holds 32.5 million m³ of water - 27 million m³ of this can be used.
