The Peneireiro dam ( Portuguese Barragem do Peneireiro ) is located in the northern region of Portugal in the Bragança district . It dams the Arco to a reservoir. The small town of Vila Flor is about two kilometers northeast of the dam.
The project to build the dam began in 1971. The construction was completed in 1973. The dam is used to supply drinking water. It is owned by the Câmara Municipal de Vila Flor , the municipality of the small town ( Vila ) of Vila Flor.
Barrier structure
The barrier structure consists of a dam with a height of 15 m above the foundation level (13 m above the river bed). The crest of the dam lies at a height of 622.8 m above sea level . The length of the dam crest is 693 m and its width 4 m. The volume of the dam is 144,000 m³.
The dam has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 1.84 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 11 m³ / s via the flood discharge. The design flood is 12 m³ / s; the probability of this event occurring has been determined to be once in 500 years.
Reservoir
With a normal storage target of 621.2 m (maximum 621.8 m at high water), the reservoir extends over an area of around 0.14 km² and holds 0.768 million m³ of water - of which 0.67 million m³ can be used. The minimum stowage destination is 611.5 m.
