The Roucanito dam ( Portuguese Barragem de Roucanito ) is located in the Alentejo region of Portugal in the Évora district . It dams the Ribeiro do Peral , a right (western) tributary of the Guadiana, to a reservoir. The town of Reguengos de Monsaraz is about 15 km southwest of the dam.
The project to build the dam began in 1974. The construction was completed in 1975. The dam is used for irrigation. It is owned by the Sociedade Agrícola do Roucanito .
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a dam with a height of 20 m above the foundation level (18.5 m above the river bed). The crest of the dam is at a height of 177.5 m above sea level . The length of the dam crest is 180 m and its width 6 m.
The dam has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 1.3 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 77.5 m³ / s via the flood discharge. The design flood is 77.5 m³ / s; the probability of this event occurring was determined to be once every 100 years.
Reservoir
With the normal storage target of 175.5 m (maximum 176.5 m at high water), the reservoir extends over an area of around 0.076 km² and holds 0.519 million m³ of water - of which 0.483 million m³ can be used.
