The Vale do Cobrão dam ( Portuguese Barragem de Vale do Cobrão ) is located in the Alentejo region of Portugal in the Santarém district . It dams the Vale Cobrão , a left (southern) tributary of the Tejo, to a reservoir. The town of Samora Correia is about ten kilometers northwest of the dam. The A13 motorway runs past the reservoir approximately one kilometer east.

The dam was completed in 1982. It is used for irrigation. The dam is owned by the Companhia das Lezírias .

Barrier structure

The barrier structure is a dam with a height of 20 m above the foundation level (14 m above the river bed). The top of the dam is at a height of 23 m above sea level . The length of the dam crest is 510 m and its width 5 m. The volume of the dam is 500,000 m³.

The dam has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 315.71 m³ / s can be discharged via the flood relief. The design flood is 305.8 m³ / s.

Reservoir

With the normal storage target of 21.85 m, the reservoir extends over an area of ​​around 1.1 km² and holds 6.2 million m³ of water.
