The Vascoveiro dam ( Portuguese Barragem de Vascoveiro ) is located in the Central Portugal region in the Guarda district . It dams the Ribeira da Pega to a reservoir. The eponymous municipality of Vascoveiro is located about 500 m northeast of the dam.
The project to build the dam began in 1996. The construction was completed in 2000. The dam is used to supply drinking water. It is owned by the district administration of Pinhel , the CM Pinhel .
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a dam with a height of 23 m above the foundation level (19 m above the river bed). The top of the dam is at a height of 594.5 m above sea level . The length of the dam crest is 248 m and its width 7 m. The volume of the dam is 95,000 m³.
The dam has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 1.1 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 306 m³ / s via the flood discharge. The design flood is 306 m³ / s; the probability of this event occurring has been determined to be once in 1,000 years.
Reservoir
With a normal storage target of 591 m (maximum 593.2 m at high water), the reservoir extends over an area of around 0.57 km² and holds 3 million m³ of water - of which 2.4 million m³ can be used. The minimum storage target is 582.2 m.
