Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas ( Malay for Park of the Golden Jubilee Coronation ; Engl .: Golden Jubilee Crown Park , originally Eco-Corridor Park / Taman Eko-Corridor ) is a park in Bandar Seri Begawan , Brunei . The park was inaugurated by Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah on October 22, 2017 in connection with the Golden Jubilee of the Throne (October 5, 2017) .

Emergence

The park was created through the planning and design of the Sungai Kedayan Eco-Corridor , a project aimed at ecologically rehabilitating the Sungai Kedayan River . The plan was to improve flood management, renaturation and the development of public spaces. The eco-corridor project is part of the large-scale Bandar Seri Begawan Development Master Plan , the aim of which is to 'revitalize' Bandar Seri Begawan, especially in the city center and with further construction work on commercial, residential and social as well as service infrastructure elements.

history

The design of the park began in January 2016 as part of the 10th National Development Plan ( Rancangan Kemajuan Negara Ke-10 / RKN10 ) under the direction of the Ministry of Development . The project was designed for completion in May 2018, but could already be completed 8 months in advance. On October 22, 2017, the park was officially inaugurated by Hassanal Bolkiah.

description

Sultan Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Pedestrian Bridge

Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas has an area of 12 hectares and lies on a section of the bank of the Sungai Kedayan up to its confluence with the Sungai Brunei . The center of the park is a 6 m wide promenade along which various gardens and green areas are laid out.

There are eleven access points to the park: nine from the land and two from the river via water taxis and landing stages. The Sultan Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Pedestrian Bridge spans the river and connects the park with the opposite bank, the Batu Satu industrial park .

criticism

The park and the eco-corridor project in general had a major impact on the community of Kampong Ayer , the old center of Brunei. The design resulted in the relocation of 500 residents from the area and the entire mukim was dissolved. This intensified the increasing exodus from the Kampong Ayer community and raised concerns about the survival of the remaining community.
