Tamerlane Garayev

Tamerlan Garayev (born January 30, 1952 in Ağdam , Azerbaijan , Soviet Union ) is an Azerbaijani diplomat.

Career

Garayev graduated from Azerbaijan State University in 1973 with a law degree. He received a master's degree from the Academy for Science, Philosophy and Law. 1981 followed a doctorate ( Ph.D. ) at the Scientific Research University of the Soviet Interior Ministry in Moscow . He received a doctorate in law from the same university in 1993.

From 1973 to 1978 Garayev was assistant to the prosecutor of the Lenin and Nasīmī District in the Investigative Department of the Baku City Prosecutor . From 1978 to 1991 he was a lecturer, assistant professor and vice-dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Azerbaijan. In 1990 Garayev became a member of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan and in 1991 deputy chairman of the council. In 1992 he was the first deputy chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan , before going as ambassador to the People's Republic of China from 1993 to 2001 .

Back in Baku, Garayev was director of the law firm from 2001 to 2004. This was followed in 2004 as ambassador to India (with responsibility also for Sri Lanka , Nepal , Maldives and Bangladesh ) and in 2011 to Indonesia (appointment: September 16, 2011). Here he is also accredited as ambassador to East Timor (since February 14, 2013), the Philippines and Singapore and as permanent representative of both ASEAN .

Garayev speaks Azerbaijani, Russian, Turkish and English. He is married and has two sons and four grandchildren.
