Tamir Pardo (born in Israel in 1953 ) is an Israeli officer and was director of the Mossad foreign intelligence service between 2010 and 2015 .

Life

He served in the Israeli military as a liaison officer in the Sajeret Matkal special unit . During this time he was involved in Operation Entebbe under Yonatan "Yoni" Netanyahu , the elder brother of Prime Minister Netanyahu. Yonatan was killed in the operation.

After his military service, Tamir joined the Mossad in 1980. There he rose and in 1998 became head of the "Caesarea" secret service department, which is responsible for electronic surveillance. In 2002 he was appointed as his deputy by Meir Dagan . In 2005 Pardo served in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), where he was supposed to apply his special knowledge. During this time, Dagan fired his then deputy and brought Pardo back as his number 2, with the promise that he would soon take over the management of the Mossad. Only his code name "T" was known to the public. In 2009, however, Benjamin Netanyahu did not accept him for his promotion to director, and so he went into the private sector in summer 2009.

After potential candidates for the post of director of the Mossad were rejected, Netanyahu chose Tamir Pardo. He was appointed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on November 29, 2010, replacing Meir Dagan, who headed the Mossad for eight years.

Pardo is married and has two children.
