The diocese of Nongstoin was on January 28, 2006 by Pope Benedict XVI. built with the Apostolic Constitution Cum ad aeternam from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Shillong and subordinated to this as a suffragan . Its area includes the districts of South West Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills . First Bishop was Victor Lyngdoh .
