Nongstoin is a city in the Indian state of Meghalaya .
The city is the capital of the West Khasi Hills district . Nongstoin has the status of a Town Committee . The city is divided into 18 wards . On the cut-off date of the 2011 census it had 28,742 inhabitants, of which 14,252 were men and 14,490 women. Christians make up the majority of the city's population with a share of over 98%. Hindus form a minority of around 1%. The literacy rate in 2011 was 87.9% and thus well above the national average. 98.9% of the population belong to the Scheduled Tribes .
