The Tangarakau River is a wild river on the North Island of New Zealand . It has its source near Whangamomona and flows through a sparsely populated valley. It flows into the middle reaches of the Whanganui River . The New Zealand State Highway 43 or "Forgotten World Highway" runs partially through the river valley.
