The Tanizaki Jun'ichirō Memorial ( Japanese 芦 屋 市 谷 崎 潤 一郎 記念 館 , Ashiya-shi Tanizaki Jun'ichirō Kinenkan , English Tanizaki Junichiro Memorial Museum of Literature, Ashiya ) is located in Ashiya in Hyōgo Prefecture . The writer's museum opened in 1988. It collects and exhibits materials about the Japanese writer Tanizaki Jun'ichirō and provides information about his literary work.

Overview

The memorial's building and garden are modeled after Tanizaki's preferred style of a Sukiya-style house. Various objects from Tanizaki's estate are exhibited, such as his favorite desk, ink stone, brush, etc.

The lobby of the memorial is also used for various cultural events related to Tanizaki, such as painting exhibitions. The entrance area is adorned with a 15-ton megalith from Tanizaki's garden in Kobe . The megalith got into the garden during the two-day flood in the Hanshin area in 1938.
