Tanja Grießbaum (born February 11, 1992 in Baden-Baden ) is a German mountain and long-distance runner . In 2012 she became German junior mountain running champion.

education and profession

In 2011, Grießbaum graduated from the Pamina Gymnasium in Herxheim. Then she completed a voluntary social year in sport with the Palatinate Sports Youth. In 2012, Grießbaum began her studies at Cardiff Metropolitan University in International Business Management in Cardiff (Wales). She successfully completed this in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts degree . Until June 2017 she worked as an assistant to the management in a company for trenchless pipelines in Rohrbach. Since July 2017 she has been employed in a software company in Kandel.

Athletic career

At the age of 12 she took part in a 10 km run for the first time and immediately ran Palatinate records in all youth classes W12 to W15. The records in the classes WU18, WU20 and women were added.  

In 2011 she became the South German champion over 5000 meters in the juniors. In 2012 she won the German junior championship in mountain running and bronze in the active class. She competed internationally for the first time at the 2012 European Mountain Running Championships in Turkey. At the German 10,000 m championships she reached 5th place in the same year. 2013 she took part in the mountain running world championships in Poland; of around 100 participants, she came in 50th as the second best German.  

During her studies in Cardiff (Wales), she also took part in the British Indoor Championships in Sheffield: On January 22nd, 2015, she finished 6th over 3000 meters. In 2015 she ran the 10 km for the first time under 35 minutes. On April 23, 2016, she reached 5th place at the German half marathon championships in Bad Liebenzell. In 2016 she was also the South German champion over 5000 meters.

In total, she won 16 Rhineland-Palatinate championships.

Tanja Grießbaum started for her hometown club, the LG Rülzheim, until 2016. Edmund Hamburger has trained her there since the beginning of her running career. Since January 1, 2017, she has been wearing the jersey of the LG Region Karlsruhe and training under Günther Scheefer. At the same time she was accepted into the Elbstaffel team, Hamburg.

On February 24, 2017, she ran her first marathon in Tel Aviv, Israel. In the time of 2:51:00 h she took 3rd place behind two Africans. In addition, Tanja Grießbaum was nominated for the World Mountain Running Long Distance Championships in 2017. It started there in August 2017 in Premana, Italy, and came in 38th.
