Petrol station (Friedrichshafen)
As early as 1925, a petrol station was built at Werastraße 18 in Friedrichshafen , a town in the Lake Constance district in Baden-Württemberg . After its destruction in World War II , one of its typical branded petrol stations was built here in 1950 for the German-American Petroleum Company, which has only recently been operating under the name of Esso AG . The gas station was registered as a cultural monument in 1998 .
The petrol station is placed in a prominent position in the corner of important access roads, so that it could be approached from two sides and formed a landmark .
The brightly tiled tank house with a surrounding strip of shop windows above a low plinth is accompanied by accentuating contrasting stripes. The flat roof extends over the tank area and rests on a mushroom-like column that grows up from the tank island.
The exemplary restored gas station has been used as a showroom for a construction company since 2016 .
