Tanner Island is the westernmost and largest island in the group of Pickersgill Islands off the south coast of South Georgia in the South Atlantic .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1979 after William Geoffrey Tanner (* 1938), geologist of the British Antarctic Survey , who worked on this island from 1975 to 1976.
