Tao Zhu
Tao Zhu ( Chinese 陶鑄 / 陶铸 , Pinyin Táo Zhù ; born January 16, 1908 in Qiyang , Hunan Province ; † November 30, 1969 ) was a Chinese politician and leader of the Communist Party of China .
Life
Tao Zhu's political ascent began in Guangdong in 1949 , where he enforced a centralist line. He became governor in February 1955 and first secretary in September 1956. He was elected at the 8th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in September 1956 and rose in 1965. The Cultural Revolution allowed him to accelerate his rise. In July 1966 he took over the leadership of the "Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China" ( 中国 共产党 中央 委员会 宣传部 , Zhōngguó Gòngchǎndǎng Zhōngyāng Wěiyuánhuì Xuānchuánbù ) as the successor to Lu Dingyi. He joined the Politburo in August 1966. He was attacked by the Red Guards along with Liu Shaoqi and Deng Xiaoping . He was overthrown in 1967 and died under house arrest in 1969 .
