The Tapecua ear mouse ( Tapecomys primus ) is a species of rodent from the group of New World mice that lives in Bolivia . It was not scientifically described until 2000 .

They are relatively large representatives of the New World mice. They reach a head body length of 12 to 14 centimeters, the tail is slightly longer. The weight is around 90 grams. Their fur is brown on the upper side, the underside is lighter. Compared to other New World mice, their coat color is inconspicuous. The front paws are white and the rear paws brown and relatively large. The ears are relatively large.

So far, the species is only known from one site in the Bolivian Department of Tarija . Their habitat are moist forests around 1500 meters above sea level. So far nothing is known about the way of life of this species.

Their closest relatives are likely to be the genera Andalgalomys and Salinomys .
