Sid Callahan, Rock Lange and Tim Barkley were war correspondents when the American marines landed on the Japanese-occupied Gilbert Islands in 1943. You experience the victory of the Americans after losing battles.

Jean-Michel Charlier wrote the war episode based on the experiences of the American journalist Robert Sherrod, who himself took part in the Battle of the Gilbert Islands . The drawings came from Victor Hubinon . The 60-page story with the subtitle Atoll sanglant was published in Le Moustique between 1948 and 1949 . The draftsman reworked his own work for the re-publication in Spirou in 1974 . Dupuis released the albums.
