Freckles on your knees

Freckles on my knees is a children's book by the Norwegian author Maria Parr that was published in 2010 in German translation and was published in Norway in 2009 under the original title Tonje Glimmerdal . Freckles on the knees was illustrated by Heike Herold and translated from Norwegian into German by Christel Hildebrandt. It has been translated into French and Russian, among others, and has been awarded the renowned Brage Prize and the Lynx of the Year . In addition to Norway, the book is a bestseller in Russia, where more than 12,000 books have been sold.

Freckles on my knees is about Tonje, the only child in a small village who has a friend in the age-old Gunnvald who is up for any fun. When Gunnvald comes to the hospital and suddenly a strange woman shows up and moves into Gunnvald's house, Tonje has to use all her imagination to bring her story to a happy ending.

For Angelika Overath from the Neue Zürcher Zeitung , "the multi-award-winning children's novel Freckles on your Knees (...) is a dramatically brilliant piece of children's literature, exciting, surprising, fairy-tale. With tenderness and humor, trust and friendship, love and disappointment are told between parents and children. " The special quality of Parr's freckles on his knees is also pointed out in the Bulletin Jugend & Literatur (issue 4/2010) : "The charm of this impressive children's novel, which received the Luchs von der Zeit and Radio Bremen among other awards , lies in the successful mix speed, comic situations and a sense of quiet interpersonal tones as well as generally valid values - that has something, as Maria Parr says at times, a little "old-fashioned" in tone and attitude, and then again very lively to bring a detail to the point in a highly contemporary way . The subtle, comic-like drawings by Heike Herold exactly match the freshness and liveliness of the novel.
